Product Development Center (PDC) for Composites Based Sports Goods is a project of Ministry of Industries & Production (MoI&P), Government of Pakistan under execution Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) to provide Common Facility Services to sports sector in the manufacturing of Composites Based Sports Goods, increase exports and enhance productivity by providing technical consultancy services, to provide skilled workforce to the industry, laboratory testing of products and raw material and to development of Prototypes for different products.
- Provide Common Facility Services in the manufacturing of composite sports goods i.e. Hockey sticks, Baseball and Cricket bats, Billiard Ques, Rackets, Fishing Tackle, Golf sticks, etc.
- Provide skilled workforce to industry for the composites based sports goods i.e. Hockey, Golf Sticks, Bats, Rackets, etc.
- Laboratory testing of products and raw material.
- Help develop imported machinery locally.
- Development of Prototypes for different products.
- Enhance productivity by providing technical consultancy services to new and existing industrial units.
The world export market has a potential for Composites based Sports Goods having a market size of US$ 6.75 billion in 2015 and expected to grow to US$ 9.62 billion by 2025.
World share of composite converted / convertible in total world sports sector export is 15% in 2015. However, Pakistan’s current share in this market in 2015 is merely US$ 1.67 million which is 0.02% of the global composite converted / convertibles market.
The Project will be a CFC for conducting research on development of prototypes for composite based sports goods and help the industry to graduate from basic to advanced/high tech sports goods including Field, Roller and Ice hockey sticks, Baseball and Cricket bats, Billiard Ques, Rackets, & Fishing Tackle, Golf sticks, Water sports equipment, Snow sports etc. through provision of services such as chemical and physical testing, technical consultancy and skill development.
The project will help and prepare local industry to aggressively enter the international market of composite-based sports goods.
- Total Value Addition Rs. 238.39 (with 20% annual growth)
- Exports of composites based sports goods may increase from US$ 1.67 million to US$ 319.39 million by 2025.
- Employment 581 (direct 81 & indirect 500)
- Land measuring 14.4 Kanal had been earmarked at SIDC premises.
- Contract was awarded to Civil Contractor for Construction of Building and Allied Facilities.
- Civil work under process as per design.
- All buildings including Pre-Feb buildings are completed. Completion of Paint, external development work and electrification works are in progress.
- Approximately 85% civil work completed.
- Bids for supply of Machinery was received. Letter of Acceptance issued to successful Bidder for Supply, Installation, Commission of Plan, Machinery & Equipment and Transfer of Technical knowhow. Signing of Contract is in process.
- Partial Office equipment and Furniture and Fixture procured.
- Project Staff hired as per requirement.
The proposed PDC will help and prepare local industry to aggressively enter the international market of composite based sports goods. The sports sector already enjoys very strong linkages with international sports goods brands, which would greatly help in marketing of these products. The said center shall mainly provide services to the industry as; Prototype Development, Testing Facilities, Technical Consultancy, Training of Labor and Common Facility Centre Services.
